Holden Aluminium Technologies has
worked in conjunction with Bailey
Caravans to pioneer a new style of
caravan. The Alu-Tech body shell
construction system is the most
signifi cant development in caravan
production technology for over thirty
years.
Holden Aluminium Technologies were
approached in 2007 to assist in the design
of the aluminium extrusions required to form
the main construction framework of the new
Alutech caravan shell.
Once the shape of the extrusion had been
agreed Holden Aluminium Technologies were
offered a contract to establish a process
which would enable the extrusion to be
formed to the side profile of the caravan.
Having undertaken the most
comprehensive product design
programme the industry
has ever known, the Bailey
development team has produced
a unique construction system that
has necessitated the commission
of over 100 bespoke tools to
build it. In addition to this it is so advanced
that it has 5 new patents pending. The result
is a caravan that is triumph of engineering
and technological advancement that offers
real advantages of ownership.
The whole new build design was dependant
on being able to form the side rails to the
correct shape whilst keeping the section
integrity, such as the awning rail grooves and
the tee bolt securing slots. Holden Aluminium
Technologies spent a number of weeks
developing the tooling and a new forming
process.
The first caravan to be built using this new
technology is the Bailey Pegasus which
was launched at the Caravan Show at the
NEC in Birmingham in 2009.
Holden Aluminium Technologies are now
producing 300 sets of parts a week which
not only include the formed roof and side
member, but also machining the rear light
cluster and side corner section ready for the
production line to fit the light units. |
